Job summary

Serco Inc. in Manassas, VA is seeking a Principal Naval Architect to support NAVSEA 05P3 and the VIRGINIA Class program.

You will lead design and integration efforts for submarine hull forms, stability, weight, and hydrodynamics, using CAD tools and simulations, while coordinating with shipyards, PMS450, and government customers. You will drive technical and programmatic decisions, oversee weight control, and mentor junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture or related field.
• Strong background in hull design, stability, weight, and performance prediction.
• Experience with 2D/3D CAD tools (AutoCAD) and naval architecture software (Maxsurf).
• Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to manage cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and optimization of submarines, focusing on stability, buoyancy, weight, and performance.
• Oversee weight reports, hydrostatics, tank capacities, and related calculations; coordinate with PMS450 and shipyards.
• Review and advise on design documentation, specifications, and test procedures; support NAVSEA requirements.
• Provide technical leadership, manage schedules, budgets, and risk across multidisciplinary teams.
