Job summary

McMillen, Inc. is seeking a Structural Project Engineer with 5–10 years of experience focused on water resources. The role spans fisheries, hydropower, dams, and related civil infrastructure across the U.S. and Canada, requiring both design excellence and practical site engagement.

You will perform design calculations, develop drawings, and create FE models; mentor staff and present results to clients. Travel up to 15% is expected; P.E./P.Eng. licensure is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from an accredited University.
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience as a Structural Engineer
  • P.E. or P.Eng. licensure a plus.
  • Experience with water resource infrastructure including fishery related projects, hydropower, dams, water conveyance, storm water networks, heavy grading, water treatment, spillways, and pump stations
  • Experience with FEA modeling software for linear and non-linear structural analysis. ABAQUS or ANSYS/LS DYNA is a plus.
  • Seismic loads analysis expertise including coefficient methods, response spectrum and time history methods
  • Knowledge of ASCE7, ACI 318/350, AISC 360/341 and related standards
  • Familiarity with Federal Agency codes and requirements (FERC, USACE, USBR)
  • Strong communication, technical and analytical skills
  • Travel up to 15% of time to project sites and client locations

Responsibilities

  • Prepare Design Documentation Reports and Technical Memorandums summarizing criteria, history, design methods and recommendations.
  • Evaluate and apply advanced structural design techniques.
  • Perform structural computations by hand and with design software per codes.
  • Develop project details and drawings by hand or CAD.
  • Edit specifications and assist with the Project Manual.
  • Support construction activities including submittals, site inspections, and conformance reporting.
  • Develop and present FEA models and analysis results to clients.
  • Manage planning, design and construction support services.
  • Collect field data and analyze existing conditions to guide design criteria.
  • Mentor other engineering staff
