Job summary

McMillen, Inc. is seeking a Structural Project Engineer with 5–10 years of experience focused on water resource projects such as fisheries, hydropower, and dams.

You will work across feasibility, design, construction, and commissioning phases, integrating engineering, environmental, and construction perspectives. The role emphasizes hands-on design, FEA modeling (ABAQUS/ANSYS), and seismic analysis, with opportunities to mentor staff and travel up to 15% to project sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
• Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience as a Structural Engineer.
• P.E. or P.Eng. licensure is a plus.
• Experience with water resource infrastructure including fishery projects, hydropower, dams, water conveyance, storm water networks, heavy grading, water treatment, spillways, and pump stations.
• Experience with FEA modeling software (ABAQUS or ANSYS/LS-DYNA).
• Seismic loads analysis knowledge (coefficient methods, response spectrum, time history).
• Knowledge of ASCE7, ACI 318/350, AISC 360/341; familiarity with FERC, USACE, USBR codes.
• Willingness to travel up to 15%.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Design Documentation Reports, technical memorandums, and reports summarizing criteria, history, methodologies, and recommendations.
• Evaluate and apply advanced structural design techniques and criteria.
• Perform structural computations by hand and using design software per current codes.
• Develop project details and drawings by hand or CAD.
• Edit project specifications and assist with the Project Manual.
• Provide on-site construction support, submittals, RFIs, and conformance reporting.
• Develop FEA models and present results clearly to clients.
• Manage planning, design, and construction support services.
• Collect field data and as-built information to identify critical design areas.
• Mentor other engineering staff.
