Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a senior structural engineer to lead design and analysis of launch vehicle structures, including composites and metallic parts. The role focuses on coordinating with teams, guiding production, and ensuring quality for a high-rate aerospace environment.

You will apply classical and FEM methods, support manufacturability, and mentor junior engineers while driving cost-effective, safe hardware for spaceflight programs in a collaborative culture.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering and 7+ years of related experience.
  • Experience with launch vehicles, aircraft or similar applications in structural design of metallic components and assemblies.
  • Subject matter expertise in structural analysis using both classical hand-calculation methods and finite element analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of material selection, compatibility, and manufacturing techniques.
  • Advanced understanding of FEM modeling techniques (boundary conditions, bolted connections, contact, verification methods).
  • Strong mechanical design skills using Creo.
  • Strong skills with ASME Y14.5 GD&T interpretation and application.
  • U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analysis of primary and secondary structures, including composites and metallic parts and assemblies.
  • Coordinate with other subsystem teams on structural interfaces.
  • Provide on-site manufacturing and production support, including travel when needed.
  • Ensure production quality and disposition of nonconformances.
  • Support configuration development and trade studies.
  • Perform analysis reviews for designers and junior analysts in stress, stability, and fracture analysis.
  • Collaborate with teams selecting materials, processes, and suppliers for aerospace hardware.
  • Develop and improve enterprise analysis tools and automated reports.
  • Mentor junior engineers and report on schedule and technical status.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
