Job summary

Akima Infrastructure Services (AIS) is recruiting a Structural Engineer to support DOE projects at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, TN, and other facilities. The role emphasizes detailed design, field support, and coordination with integrated project teams on complex structures and seismic rehab.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering from ABET-accredited school; minimum 10 years' experience.
• Active PE license preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to interface with clients and teams.
• Ability to obtain/maintain a DOE Q clearance.
• Willingness to work in a production environment.
• Pre-employment drug screen and medical examinations may be required.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed design packages and provide engineering support to implement designs.
• Prepare conceptual deliverables: cost estimates, BOMs, work statements, design criteria.
• Lead or contribute to multi-discipline teams and coordinate with system engineers.
• Perform plant walkdowns to generate designs and provide field support.
• Apply engineering principles to building evaluations, seismic rehab, and equipment installations.
• Develop structural drawings and calculations for steel, concrete, and mixed materials.
• Oversee drafts and subcontractors; ensure design compliance with codes.
