Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Chicago, IL, seeks a senior structural engineer to join its Nuclear Power Group. The role combines design, analysis, and leadership on projects for new facilities and upgrades, with collaboration across disciplines.

You'll guide junior engineers, perform calculations, and use tools like STAAD and ANSYS to ensure safe, cost-effective structures; travel to client/sites as needed, and enjoy a hybrid schedule with three days in the office.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Seven or more years of experience working as a member of a project team in the design and analysis of structures.
• Proficiency with structural analysis software such as STAAD, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS.
• Proficiency with design codes and standards such as ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead structural engineering projects for nuclear facilities and upgrades.
• Guide work of junior engineers and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Prepare and review design calculations, develop specifications, and support drawing development.
• Perform structural analysis and design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, and foundations.
• Travel to client and vendor sites for design reviews and coordination as needed.
