Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) is seeking a talented Structural Engineer in our Washington, DC Structures Division to join a team delivering design, repair and evaluation services. You will lead technical work, develop drawings and specifications, and mentor engineers while engaging clients and stakeholders on diverse infrastructure projects.

The role requires 5+ years of progressive experience, PE license, and strong knowledge of codes (IBC, AISC, ASCE 7) with proficiency in RAM, ETABS, SAP2000

Qualifications

  • MS in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of structural engineering experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • PE license required; SE license preferred (if applicable).

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural evaluations, analyses, designs, and investigative engineering assignments.
  • Prepare and review structural calculations, technical reports, drawings, and specifications to maintain quality, accuracy, and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Assist with the management of projects from concept through construction, including scope, budget, schedule, and quality control.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors, and stakeholders to deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Provide construction-phase support, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, conducting site observations, and resolving field issues.
  • Mentor and support the professional development of junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive service and technical excellence.
  • Pursue professional activities to gain professional recognition.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and success of the Structures Division through leadership, collaboration, and innovation.
