Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) in Washington, DC seeks a Principal‑level structural engineer to lead the growth of the DC Structural Engineering Division. You will oversee forensic evaluations, project delivery, and mentoring of staff, collaborating with Building Technology and other SGH practice areas.

The role emphasizes business development, client relationships, speaking engagements, and contributing to technical publications while upholding SGH standards of ethics and excellence.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or doctorate in structural engineering or related field.
  • PE/SE license required; SE preferred.
  • Strong leadership with client-relations and business development skills.
  • Experience communicating technical concepts clearly and publicly.

Responsibilities

  • Develop business and deliver projects through client relationships, marketing, project management, and technical oversight.
  • Lead, supervise, mentor, and train staff in a collaborative, high‑quality environment.
  • Coordinate with SGH practice areas and Building Technology Division on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Contribute to professional committees and journals as appropriate.
