Senior Structural Engineer at VHB

Overview

About the Position: Senior Structural Engineer – Hybrid – Hauppauge, NY

In this role, you will be involved in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of various projects, primarily transportation-related, with opportunities in waterfront and coastal projects. The ideal candidate will have a proactive attitude, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently and in teams within a dynamic environment. The position offers significant growth and development opportunities within VHB's expanding New York/Long Island offices.

Responsibilities:

1. Manage, develop, and implement structural planning, analysis, and design for transportation and waterfront structures.
2. Project scoping and development.
3. Supervise and mentor team members in design development, technical oversight, specifications, calculations, load ratings, and reports.
4. Monitor project budgets and schedules.
5. Assist with proposals and presentations.

Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of structural, geotechnical, and marine engineering concepts and practices.
• Strong technical skills with familiarity with various structural systems and codes.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to present technically and write effectively.
• Team-oriented with the capability to work independently.
• Critical thinking, project management, and organizational skills.
• Proactive, detail-oriented, and motivated to mentor junior staff.
• Proficiency in structural engineering software such as STAAD.pro, RISA 3D, PCA Design, RAM Steel, Tekla, MathCAD, Revit, Microstation, and AutoCAD.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required; master’s preferred.
• 8-11 years of structural engineering experience.
• PE license required.
• Experience with private, municipal, and public projects.
• OSHA 30 certification preferred.

Estimated salary range in Hauppauge, NY: $123,000–$165,000, based on qualifications and experience.
