Job Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with expertise in telecommunications infrastructure to lead structural analysis and design efforts. This role requires strong technical proficiency in managing and producing structural and mount analyses for telecommunications towers, monopoles, rooftop installations, and other wireless infrastructure.
Additionally, the ideal candidate must have leadership skills to mentor and train a team of junior engineers, ensuring the team delivers high-quality structural solutions. This position also requires travel up to 50% of the time, primarily to provide on-site training and mentoring to junior engineers and conduct structural field assessments. The position requires fluency in Spanish, as it involves working with Spanish-speaking clients, vendors, and team members. The successful candidate must be able to communicate technical concepts clearly in both English and Spanish.
Key Responsibilities:
- Structural Analysis & Design:
Manage and produce structural and mount analyses for telecom infrastructure, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
Perform structural calculations for tower loading, equipment mounts, foundations, and modifications to support new telecom installations.
Evaluate antenna and equipment loads, wind loads, and seismic considerations for telecom structures.
Provide recommendations for reinforcements, retrofits, and structural modifications based on analysis results.
Ensure all designs meet TIA-222, ASCE, AISC, ACI, and other applicable industry codes and standards.
Coordinate structural design requirements with A&E Project Managers, Drafters, Senior Engineers, Clients, Building Officials, Contractors, and other External Consultants.
Review Quality Assurance - Quality Control (QA-QC) and final review on structural analysis reports and drawings.
Assist with construction administration activities, including field surveys and shop drawing or RFI coordination.
Perform site visits and prepare field reports to document existing site conditions.
Leadership, Mentorship & Training:
- Train, mentor, and develop a team of junior engineers, ensuring they gain technical proficiency in structural engineering principles and telecom infrastructure.
- Conduct regular training sessions and hands-on workshops on structural analysis, tower inspections, and industry best practices.
- Review structural calculations, reports, and designs prepared by junior engineers to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Establish best practices for structural analysis and mount designs, ensuring consistency across the engineering team.
- Serve as a key technical resource, providing ongoing guidance and support to junior staff.
Travel & On-Site Training (Up to 50%):
- Travel to train and mentor junior engineers in structural assessments and telecom infrastructure practices.
- Conduct field training sessions on structural inspections, data collection, and mount analysis validation.
- Work closely with field teams, clients, and contractors to ensure proper implementation of structural designs.
- Participate in client and jurisdictional meetings as needed to support structural design approvals.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum of 5-10 years in structural engineering in telecommunications infrastructure.
- Requirement: Fluency in Spanish and English is required.
- Leadership & Training Experience: Prior experience mentoring and training engineers is required. Strong ability to develop junior engineers into competent structural professionals.
- Licensing: Professional Engineer (PE) license required with the ability to obtain multi-state licensure as required.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to perform site visits and work in outdoor environments as needed.
- Problem-Solving: Analytical and critical-thinking skills to troubleshoot design issues and optimize structural solutions.
- Teamwork: Ability to work within a team environment with individuals from various offices and disciplines through all phases of design.
- Technical Proficiency: Expertise in structural and mount analysis software such as tnxTower, Risa 3D, Mathcad, O-Calc PRO, and Enercalc, or similar tools. Proficiency in using Microsoft Suite products such as MS Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
- Specifications Knowledge: Knowledge of codes and specifications: IBC, TIA-222, ASCE, etc.
- Communication Skills: Strong ability to convey technical concepts clearly to junior engineers and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Structural Engineering License.
- Familiarity with telecom carrier standards and permitting processes.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD drafting/modeling software.
