Job summary

KIOXIA America, Inc. is seeking an SSD Firmware Debug Engineer to triage and debug firmware failures in the data center SSD product line. You will work with Product Support Engineering to resolve issues, drive root cause analysis, and deliver customer-friendly solutions.

This role may offer rotation opportunities. Responsibilities include developing debug firmware in C, collaborating with core firmware teams, and producing 8D reports and white papers.

Qualifications

• BS degree in computer engineering or equivalent field with minimum 10 years of experience in a technical related field or MS degree with minimum 8 years of experience
• Proven NVMe and PCIe experience debugging complex SSD issues
• SSD Firmware architecture and/or validation/test experience
• Excellent understanding of debug tools: PCIe and NVME protocol analyzers
• Data center/server storage knowledge and experience
• Open-Source SSD Tools, such as NVMe-CLI, FIO
• Good understanding of Open Compute Platform (OCP) specifications
• Experience with Telemetry, Host logs (dmesg, event logs), Firmware trace logs
• Strong verbal and written communication skills (English)
• Willing to travel domestically and internationally

Responsibilities

• Perform debug for SSD Firmware issues reported from customers and stakeholders
• Develop debug firmware in C across the SSD firmware stack to accelerate root cause analysis
• Collaborate with core firmware development teams to drive issues to resolution
• Troubleshoot SSD performance issues and improve IOPS and throughput
• Conduct lab replication of reported issues
• Create 8D/failure analysis reports and communicate findings to customers
• Write product use-case technical white papers as needed
