Job summary

KIOXIA America, Inc. is seeking an SSD Firmware Debug Engineer to triage and debug firmware failures in the data center SSD product line. You will work with Product Support Engineering to resolve issues, drive root cause analysis, and deliver customer-friendly solutions.

This role may offer rotation opportunities. Responsibilities include developing debug firmware in C, collaborating with core firmware teams, and producing 8D reports and white papers.

Qualifications

• BS degree in computer engineering or equivalent field with minimum 10 years of experience in a technical related field or MS degree with minimum 8 years of experience
• Proven NVMe and PCIe experience debugging complex SSD issues
• SSD Firmware architecture and/or validation/test experience
• Excellent understanding of debug tools: PCIe and NVME protocol analyzers
• Data center/server storage knowledge and experience
• Open-Source SSD Tools, such as NVMe-CLI, FIO
• Good understanding of Open Compute Platform (OCP) specifications
• Experience with Telemetry, Host logs (dmesg, event logs), Firmware trace logs
• Strong verbal and written communication skills (English)
• Willing to travel domestically and internationally

Responsibilities

Job Description

As an SSD Firmware Debug Engineer, your primary role is to triage and debug SSD drive Firmware failures for our data center SSD product line. In this role, you will work closely with the Product Support Engineering team to assist with resolution of customer reported issues and lead activities to root cause failures. This includes tracking multiple issues and driving stakeholders to deliver in high-pressure situations. The candidate will be a critical stakeholder in the decision-making process with an emphasis on providing solutions that are acceptable to customers.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Perform debug for SSD Firmware related issues reported from customers, Joint Qualifications and Customer Qualifications.
• Work on development of debug firmware in C programming across the SSD firmware stack to accelerate the root cause analysis.
• Work closely with core firmware development teams to drive issues to resolution in a timely manner.
• Work on troubleshooting SSD performance issues and reduce tail latencies and improve IOPS and throughput.
• Perform required lab work to replicate the reported issues
• Create 8D/failure analysis reports and explain to the customer
• Write product use-case technical white papers as needed

Qualifications

The expected salary for this position is $133,960.00 - $223,270.00.
