Job summary

Nubank is seeking an engineering leader for the U.S. Market Team to ensure production reliability of our scalable financial platforms. The role emphasizes SLO/SLI discipline, incident response, and strong observability, with a focus on building reliable services for a high-demand market in Miami.

You will own reliability, lead blameless postmortems, and mentor engineers while collaborating with product and security teams to maintain a fast and safe delivery cadence. Hybrid work model in Miami.

Qualifications

• Experience owning services in production and being responsible for behavior under real load and failure.
• Experience defining and operating against SLOs/SLIs and using error budgets to influence decisions.
• Experience leading incident response and writing postmortems that produced durable improvements.
• Hands-on experience with observability tooling (metrics, structured logging, distributed tracing) and diagnosing production issues.
• Deep system design: distributed services, asynchronous messaging, storage tradeoffs, API design, idempotency, consistency, backpressure.
• Significant experience building and operating production software in high-ownership environments.
• Comfort operating in cloud environments (AWS/GCP), containerized workloads, and CI/CD pipelines; understanding failure modes.
• Demonstrated technical leadership: influencing architecture, mentoring engineers.
• Pragmatism: balancing reliability with fast shipping.

Responsibilities

• Define and operate against SLOs. Establish meaningful SLIs and SLOs with partners, manage error budgets and use them as inputs for prioritization.
• Build the observability layer: improve metrics, logs, traces, and alerting, push instrumentation upstream.
• Lead incident response as incident commander when needed and drive blameless postmortems.
• Reduce toil through engineering: automate repetitive work and improve tooling to avoid overhead.
• Production hardening: stress-test designs for partial failure and spikes; ensure resiliency.
• Make change safe and fast: progressive delivery, feature flags, canaries, rollbacks, migrations.
• Improve developer experience by removing operational friction and filling platform gaps.
• Partner across disciplines: collaborate with product, platform, security, and other teams to communicate risk.
• Raise the engineering bar: mentor, review designs, and set standards.
