Job summary

Nubank is seeking a reliability-focused engineer to define slos, lead incident response, and build scalable, production-ready systems for the U.S. market. You will shape observability, drive capacity planning, and reduce toil through automation while partnering with product, security, and platform teams.

The role emphasizes writing production code, shaping architecture, and ensuring “production-ready” standards are met to support fast, reliable releases in a complex regulatory environment.

Qualifications

• Track record of owning services in production and reliability.
• Experience defining and operating against SLOs/SLIs, and using error budgets to influence decisions.
• Experience leading incident response and writing postmortems that produced durable improvements.
• Hands‑on experience with observability tooling (metrics, structured logging, distributed tracing).

Responsibilities

• Define and operate against SLOs. Establish SLIs and SLOs with partners; manage error budgets and use them for prioritization.
• Build the observability layer: improve metrics, logs, traces, and alerting; push instrumentation into services.
• Lead incident response as incident commander; drive blameless postmortems and translate findings into work.
• Reduce toil through automation, self-healing behavior, and better tooling.
• Stress-test designs for partial failure, degradation, and spikes; validate capacity and performance beforehand.
• Improve release safety with progressive delivery, feature flags, canaries, and migrations.
• Improve developer experience by removing operational friction and tooling gaps.
• Collaborate with product/platform/security/compliance teams; translate risk into actionable language.
