Job summary

Nubank is seeking a production reliability engineer to join the U.S. Market team in a hybrid role based in Miami. You will define SLOs/SLIs, own observability, and lead incident response to keep systems production-ready at Nubank scale.

You will collaborate across product and engineering to reduce toil, improve deployment safety, and mentor peers while operating in modern cloud environments with CI/CD pipelines.

Qualifications

• Experience defining and operating against SLOs/SLIs, using error budgets to influence decisions.
• Experience leading incident response and postmortems that drove durable improvements.
• Hands-on with observability tooling (metrics, logging, tracing) to diagnose production issues.
• Deep system design: distributed services, asynchronous messaging, storage tradeoffs, API design, idempotency, backpressure.
• Comfort operating in cloud environments (AWS/GCP), containerized workloads, and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Define and operate against SLOs. Establish meaningful SLIs and SLOs with partners; manage error budgets as inputs to prioritization.
• Build the observability layer: metrics, logs, traces, alerts; push instrumentation into owned services.
• Lead incident response as incident commander; drive blameless postmortems and translate findings into engineering work.
• Reduce toil by automating repetitive ops tasks and improving tooling.
• Ensure production hardening: stress tests, capacity planning, resilience primitives.
• Make change safe and fast: improve release safety with progressive delivery, feature flags, canaries, migrations.
• Mentor engineers and raise engineering bar by reviewing designs and PRs.
