Job summary

Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company seeks a Sr. Manager, Site Reliability Engineering (DevOps) to lead a first‑level team delivering secure, reliable software across Penn Mutual's technology environment.

You will mentor DevOps engineers supporting CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, cloud enablement, release engineering, and developer tooling. This technical leadership role emphasizes hands‑on guidance, architectural influence, and driving automation strategy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
• 10+ years in DevOps, SRE, platform engineering, or related tech.
• 2+ years leading engineers or in people leadership roles.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop DevOps engineers through goal setting, performance feedback, career development, workload planning, and delivery oversight.
• Lead by example by remaining hands-on with critical technical work, providing practical guidance, reviewing designs and automation patterns, and modeling the engineering discipline expected of the team.
• Translate DevOps strategy and roadmap priorities into clear team plans, measurable deliverables, and sustainable operating practices.
• Manage daily operations for Penn Mutual's DevOps-supported services, including CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, infrastructure automation, release support, developer tooling, and production readiness practices.
• Drive consistent use of Infrastructure as Code, DevSecOps practices, automated testing, reusable deployment patterns, secure configuration, secret management, monitoring, and documentation.
• Partner with Software Engineering, SRE, Infrastructure, Architecture, Information Security, QA, Change Management, Risk, and Audit to improve deployment reliability, release safety, compliance readiness, and operational resilience.
• Support AWS cloud adoption and modernization by enabling standardized automation, secure delivery pipelines, environment management, observability, tagging, cost awareness, and operational support models.
• Use metrics, incident trends, stakeholder feedback, and platform health indicators to improve team performance, reduce manual toil, and strengthen service quality.
• Participate in incident reviews, problem management, corrective action planning, ITIL change governance, audit discussions, vendor coordination, and operational improvement initiatives.
