Job summary

SCC is seeking a Tech Specialist - SQL Administrator in Birmingham. This permanent role offers hybrid working, with core hours 9:00–17:30, and a salary package of £45,000–£52,000 plus extensive benefits.

You will own end-to-end SQL Server ownership across on-prem and Azure/AWS environments, driving performance, security and modernization initiatives. You will collaborate with Infrastructure, Security and Project teams to deliver resilient SQL Server services for business-critical applications,

Qualifications

• Advanced, hands-on DBA expertise across multiple SQL Server versions including installation, configuration and administration.
• Expert knowledge of SQL Server architecture, administration and troubleshooting.
• Deep understanding of SQL Server internals and query optimization.
• Experience administering cloud-hosted SQL platforms (Azure SQL Database/Managed Instance, AWS RDS/EC2).
• Strong expertise in high availability, DR, security and replication technologies.
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting and performance tuning skills, including index strategies and wait stats.
• Experience in ITIL-based service management environments.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture, tuning, performance and support strategy for enterprise MS SQL Server, on-prem and cloud.
• Lead technical resolution of complex SQL Server incidents and requests; ensure root-cause analysis.
• Manage lifecycle activities: upgrades, patching, migrations, maintenance and decommissioning.
• Lead IT/cloud migration projects and modernization of SQL Server workloads to Azure.
• Ensure platforms meet availability, resilience, performance and security SLAs.
• Design and improve high availability, DR, replication and security solutions.
• Drive automation and standardization across SQL Server services.
• Create and maintain SQL Server standards and runbooks.
• Collaborate with multiple teams to deliver scalable, secure SQL Server services.
