Job summary

Windward Risk seeks a Senior Database Administrator to own the SQL Server and Azure SQL/MI estate across on-prem and cloud environments. You will design and implement high-availability, disaster-recovery, and backup strategies, while tuning performance and managing capacity.

Responsibilities include security, automation with PowerShell, and collaboration with Systems and Security teams to ensure recoverability and optimal operation of critical data assets.

Qualifications

• 7 to 10 years of database administration experience in hybrid environments.
• Hands-on with Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Database/MI, including HA configurations.
• Strong backup, recovery, and DR concepts with testing and validation.
• Proficient in PowerShell and T-SQL; Windows Server administration knowledge.
• Experience with performance tuning, indexing, and capacity planning.
• Ability to communicate clearly and prioritize tasks effectively.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary administrator for SQL Server and Azure SQL/MI across on-prem and cloud.
• Design, implement, and maintain HA/DR architectures (Always On, log shipping, replication).
• Own database backup strategy, retention, and recovery testing.
• Monitor and optimize database performance; analyze execution plans and wait stats.
• Size and scale estate across Azure and on-prem data centers; manage resources and costs.
• Administer security, access control, encryption, and key management.
• Support business continuity planning and disaster recovery testing.
• Automate administration and reporting using PowerShell and T-SQL.
• Collaborate with Systems, Network, and Security teams on DR and protection.
• Act as SME for database administration and recovery operations.
