Job summary

Visa Information

TTUHSC, at its sole discretion, may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions in accordance with the directive issued by Governor Abbott. Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission is required. On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may also sponsor eligible individuals for change-of-status or change-of-employer petitions for qualifying positions. TTUHSC will not pay the $100,000 fee, if applicable.

Position Description

Performs specialized, complex work to assist in the organization and implementation of various projects and programs. Work is performed under supervision within established guidelines with performance based on overall results obtained.

Major/Essential Functions

• Reviews all patient referrals, and applicable work queues to identify uninsured or underinsured individuals and initiates communication to begin coordination of the eligibility application process.
• Assists patients in person and via phone/videoconference in exploring and applying for Medicaid, financial assistance programs and other resources to help alleviate financial burdens associated with healthcare expenses.
• Documents financial counseling sessions, and other relevant actions and communication in the practice management system.
• Effectively communicates with patients to obtain and submit needed application documents. Follows up on submitted applications to ensure decisions are reached and communicated to patients and staff.
• Verifies insurance coverage, and eligibility.
• Maintains working knowledge of all relevant state and federal program requirements; shares information with colleagues and supervisors. Develops and maintains proactive working relationships with Business Office, clinical departments, Social Work and HHSC staff to coordinate financial processes.
• Other Job duties as assigned to meet the needs of the Business Office.

Required Qualifications

High school plus five years experience. Additional education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Patient financial counseling or Medicaid Navigator experience in a clinic or hospital setting preferred.
