Job summary

Fifth Third Bank in Detroit seeks an experienced Special Assets Portfolio Manager II to manage a portfolio of complex, stressed banking relationships. You will review updated financial statements, monitor loan performance, and prepare approval memos for renewals, terms changes, and forbearance agreements.

You will assist Workout Officers in assembling files, evaluating collateral, and ensuring compliance with covenants, addressing high-risk accounts, and maintaining robust risk reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in accounting, finance or economics.
• Minimum 6 years of credit analysis or loan review experience in banking.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Professional presence and client-facing effectiveness.
• Expertise in financial and risk analysis with problem solving.
• Proficiency in Word and Excel; familiarity with internal bank systems.

Responsibilities

• Account for a portfolio of complex loans under supervision of senior staff.
• Prepare credit analysis and memos; support decisions with deal teams.
• Value collateral and monitor collateral positions in loans.
• Mentor junior analysts and loan review staff.
• Oversee loan bookings, documentation, and ALSR-related tasks.
• Monitor borrower performance, covenants, and risk ratings.
• Assist in due diligence, forbearance, and loan document reviews.
• Engage with workout officers and legal counsel as needed.
