Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a Principal Avionics Hardware Engineer to drive the design, development, and testing of spacecraft avionics hardware from component level to integrated system. You will prototype in the lab, build harnesses, and verify hardware in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.

You will collaborate with mechanical, thermal, software, and systems engineers to define vehicle architecture, ensure radiation-hardened reliability, and meet mission requirements through hands-on

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • 15+ years of avionics and power hardware development for aerospace or high-reliability sectors.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building and reworking wire harnesses and prototype electronics.
  • Understanding of common circuit analyses (Worst Case, Derating, Power, Timing).
  • Experience designing for space radiation environments and radiation effects on components.
  • Experience with various sensor types and analog/digital interfaces.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium Designer or Cadence.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test spacecraft avionics systems.
  • Lead design and analysis of vehicle power generation, energy storage, regulation, and distribution.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and test hardware for rapid prototyping and troubleshooting.
  • Define and manage sensor interfaces (IMUs, star trackers, magnetometers, etc.).
  • Collaborate with mechanical/thermal teams to influence vehicle layout and interconnects.
  • Develop schematics, manage PCB layout, and run simulations (SPICE).
  • Create test plans and reports for hardware verification at module and system levels.
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues and support vehicle-level testing and launches.
  • Maintain electrical power budgets across mission phases.
