Job summary

Blue Origin LLC in Colorado is seeking a Principal Avionics Hardware Engineer to lead the design, development and testing of spacecraft avionics hardware. You will prototype, build harnesses, and test electronics, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to ensure flight‑worthy integration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and reworking wire harnesses and prototype electronics.
  • Experience with space radiation environment and its effects on electronics.
  • Experience with various sensor types and interfaces (analog/digital).
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium Designer or Cadence.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test spacecraft avionics systems for flight programs.
  • Lead power systems design including generation, storage, regulation, and distribution.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and test engineering hardware and wire harnesses.
  • Design for space environment using radiation hardening techniques.
  • Define and manage sensor interfaces and electrical connections (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet).
  • Collaborate with mechanical and thermal teams for vehicle layout and packaging.
  • Develop schematics, manage PCB layout, and run circuit simulations (SPICE).
  • Create test plans and reports for hardware verification and validation.
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues and support vehicle tests and launches.
  • Maintain electrical power budgets across mission phases.
