Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Principal Avionics Hardware Engineer for spacecraft programs. You will lead design, development, and testing of avionics hardware from component level to integrated system, including harness prototyping and lab testing.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define vehicle architecture, power and sensor interfaces, and ensure flight-ready hardware for spaceflight programs. Strong hands-on hardware experience is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 15+ years of experience in avionics and power hardware development for aerospace, defense, high-reliability applications.
  • Hands-on engineer with experience designing, building, and reworking wire harnesses and prototype electronics.
  • Understanding of Worst Case Circuit Analysis, Derating, Power Analysis, Timing, etc.
  • Strong understanding of designing for the space radiation environment and its effects on components.
  • Experience with various sensor types and their analog/digital interfaces.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium Designer or Cadence.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test spacecraft avionics systems.
  • Lead design and analysis of vehicle power systems, including generation, storage, regulation, and distribution.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and test engineering hardware, including harnesses and sensor integration for prototyping.
  • Design for space environment; apply radiation-hardening principles to ensure reliability.
  • Define and manage requirements for sensors and electrical interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, RS-422, CAN, Ethernet).
  • Collaborate with mechanical and thermal teams to influence vehicle layout and connectors.
  • Develop schematics, manage PCB layout, and perform circuit simulations.
  • Create test plans and reports for hardware verification at board, box, and system levels.
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues and support vehicle-level testing and launches.
  • Maintain electrical power budgets across mission phases.
