Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking a Hardware Design Engineer for spacecraft avionics. You will own the hardware lifecycle from concept through testing, prototyping harnesses, and integrating avionics into the vehicle architecture.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure robust power distribution and sensor interfaces, applying radiation-hardening principles and performing SPICE simulations to validate designs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in avionics and power hardware development for aerospace, defense, automotive, or other high‑reliability applications.
  • Hands‑on experience designing, building, and reworking wire harnesses and prototype electronics.
  • Understanding of common circuit analyses (Worst Case Circuit Analysis, Derating, Power Analysis, Timing, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of designing for the space radiation environment and its effects on electronic components.
  • Experience with sensor interfaces (analog and digital) and their corresponding electrical interfaces.
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium Designer or Cadence.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test spacecraft avionics systems.
  • Lead the design and analysis of vehicle power systems, including generation, storage, regulation, and distribution architectures.
  • Perform hands‑on fabrication, assembly, and testing of engineering hardware including wire harnesses and prototype electronics.
  • Design for space environment with radiation hardening considerations to ensure reliability.
  • Define and manage requirements for sensors and electrical interfaces.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and thermal teams to influence layout, packaging, and connectors.
  • Develop schematics, manage PCB layout, and perform circuit simulations.
