Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Hardware Design Engineer to own the avionics hardware lifecycle, from component selection to prototyping and integration with vehicle systems. You will lead power-system design, hardware testing, and PCB layout, collaborating with mechanical, thermal, software, and systems teams to deliver reliable spaceflight hardware for demanding programs.

The role emphasizes hands-on building in the lab, designing for the space radiation environment, and contributing to flight-ready

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of avionics and power hardware development experience for aerospace/defense/high-reliability applications.
  • Hands-on engineer with experience designing, building, and reworking wire harnesses and prototype electronics.
  • Understanding of common circuit analyses (Worst Case, Derating, Power Analysis).
  • Strong understanding of designing for space radiation environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test spacecraft avionics systems.
  • Lead the design and analysis of vehicle power systems (generation, storage, regulation, distribution).
  • Fabricate, assemble, and test hardware, wire harnesses, and sensor integration for rapid prototyping.
  • Design for space environment and radiation hardening to meet mission requirements.
  • Define and manage sensor interfaces (IMUs, star trackers, magnetometers, etc.).
  • Develop schematics, manage PCB layout, and perform circuit simulations.
