Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a senior avionics engineer to drive end-to-end development of a space-rated component within the Spacecraft Bus Avionics team. You will lead cross-disciplinary efforts through concept, qualification, and production release, collaborating with customers to define requirements and to ensure robust power and data integrity.

The role emphasizes hands-on circuit design, board bring-up, and qualification for high-reliability space environments, with mentoring responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
  • 7+ years hands-on experience designing ruggedized electronic components or high-reliability hardware.
  • 7+ years hands-on experience designing, testing, and debugging switching DC/DC power supplies, including component selection, schematic capture, and PCB layout.
  • End-to-end product development experience for a space-rated component, from requirements through production release.
  • Experience with board bring-up, manufacturing support, and hardware validation.
  • Experience designing hardware for radiation environments for space applications.
  • Experience in digital design including FPGAs, CMOS sensors, DDR memory, and supporting DC/DC converter design.
  • Hands-on PCB design using Altium Designer with multi-laminate stack-ups, impedance-controlled nets, FPGA integration, EMI/EMC mitigation for flight hardware.
  • U.S. citizen/national or lawful status per export control requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end product development for a space-rated component.
  • Provide leadership within a cross-disciplinary team in a fast-paced design environment.
  • Participate in the full design cycle of flight and mission-critical avionics.
  • Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to define requirements and design architecture.
  • Incorporate PCB interconnect systems and power integrity analyses.
  • Develop controller algorithms to optimize converter performance and efficiency.
  • Design avionics solutions for high reliability in harsh environments.
  • Create mechanical interface definitions and control documents.
  • Plan and conduct engineering tests and data reviews.
  • Mentor junior engineers and review others' designs.
