Job summary

Intuitive Machines is seeking a Senior Mechanisms Engineer in Glen Burnie, MD to lead the design, development, manufacture and test of space flight and ground support mechanisms. You will oversee actuators, payload deployers, gimbal systems, and related mechanisms, working within IM's Maryland Robotics & Mechanisms Center of Excellence.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10+ years of experience in mechanisms or space hardware.
• Expertise in bearing design, geartrain analysis, seal systems, lubrication, actuators and controllers.
• Proven ability to manage end-to-end flight hardware procurements, vendors, budgets, and schedules.
• Proficiency with Creo and Windchill; familiarity with GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Serve as end-to-end Product Design Lead for mechanisms for IM’s Nova-landers and payloads.
• Technical lead for bearing design/analysis, geartrain development, and actuator integration.
• Develop specs for actuators, lead procurement, oversee testing/characterization.
• Lead subsystem reviews, requirements definition, and verification planning.
• Develop and maintain mechanism Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) for hardware.
• Maintain BOM and manage hardware procurement activity.
• Interface with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate mechanisms into the vehicle.
• Drive supplier selection, negotiation, and performance management for vendors.
• Perform mechanism analyses including bearing/gear calculations and torque margins.
• Generate CAD drawings; perform optimization, interference checks, and tolerancing.
• Devise test programs; design test apparatus and data collection systems.
• Identify risks and prototype hardware to drive risk closure.
• Own the design and implementation of integrated subsystem performance tests.
• Perform environmental testing including test plans, execution, and results.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in customer reviews.
