Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Software Test Engineer for a 100% remote US-based role with the Veterans Affairs department. The candidate must have strong programming skills (C#, Java, Python) and a track record on complex software projects, with both manual and automated testing experience.

Expect responsibilities across test planning, scripting, walk-throughs, defect resolution, and metrics reporting. A Public Trust (MBI) clearance is required; 10+ years of experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Strong programming skills in C#, Java, or Python.
• Proven track record on complex software projects with high-quality Deliverables.
• Experience in both manual and automated testing.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum SDLC.
• Proficiency in writing/executing test cases, scripts, and plans.
• Knowledge of test automation frameworks/tools: Selenium, TestNG/JUnit.
• Experience with CI/CD and version control (Git, SVN).
• Familiarity with performance testing (JMeter/Gatling) and defect tracking (JIRA/Bugzilla).
• Knowledge of SQL and validating data in databases.
• Experience testing web apps, APIs, services; security testing basics.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test plans, cases, and procedures to ensure requirements met.
• Develop test plans, schedules, and approaches.
• Write test cases/scripts and identify data for scenarios.
• Conduct walkthroughs with Test Managers and Leads.
• Perform and lead tests of IT systems for defects and operation.
• Verify work products using defined methods and criteria.
• Document and communicate test results; support issue analysis/resolution.
• Create daily test metrics and reporting; mentor junior testers.
• Provide technical solutions to complex problems; adapt to project needs.
• Review work for adequacy and ensure alignment with objectives.
