Job summary

UnitedHealth Group's Optum Tech is seeking a Sr. Manager, Software Engineering to lead 3-8 feature teams, own platforms, and deliver outcomes with excellence.

The role supports a hybrid delivery model and remote work from anywhere in the U.S., with in-office requirements in some locations. You will partner with product and technology leaders, drive Agile/DevOps practices, ensure security and governance, and mentor engineers to achieve strong, measurable business impact across multi-quarter

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience across backend/frontend, AI, and platform modernization.
• 5+ years leading engineering teams and large cross-functional delivery in a complex enterprise.
• 3+ years designing and operating scalable, secure web apps, APIs, and distributed systems.
• Experience with cloud-native AWS services: Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, CloudWatch, Step Functions.
• Solid knowledge of GenAI concepts, LLMs, Agentic AI, Bedrock, and conversational AI architectures.
• Proven ability to collaborate with product, architecture, security, data, and operations stakeholders.
• Strong track record delivering multi-quarter programs with measurable business outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Partner with product, business, and technology leaders to align strategy and priorities.
• Lead 3-8 engineering teams, driving delivery accountability and quality.
• Act as technical owner for platforms, portals, and systems in scope.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, and teams to address vulnerabilities and remediation.
• Mature Agile and DevOps practices including automation, CI/CD, observability.
• Participate in agile events and use metrics to improve predictability and quality.
• Identify skill gaps and drive upskilling and accountability.
• Ensure SDLC and AI-DLC compliance, governance, and security.
• Partner with Scrum Masters and others to optimize performance of staff and contractors.
• Mentor leaders and engineers, guiding teams through organizational change.
