Job summary

Optum is seeking a highly experienced Lead Software Engineer to join our UHC E&I Software Development team, driving design, architecture, and delivery of next-generation AI platforms. This role focuses on agentic systems, LLMs, and generative AI, shaping how AI is integrated across products at scale.

You will lead technical strategy, architect scalable, cloud-native AI platforms, and mentor engineers while enabling adoption across teams. Remote work is supported nationwide in the U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 8+ years of software engineering experience required.
• 8+ years of software engineering with deep expertise in full-stack, distributed systems, and scalable architecture.
• 2+ years of TypeScript and Python for AI agents and orchestration; 2+ years delivering LLM-based or generative AI in production.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical strategy, architecture, and execution of enterprise AI initiatives.
• Design and implement scalable, secure AI platforms and LLM-based applications.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices across teams.
• Define reference architectures, engineering standards, and governance for AI platforms.
• Collaborate with product/architecture stakeholders to translate strategy into AI-enabled solutions.
