Job summary

General Motors is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer - Vehicle Experience Services to design, build, and support platforms that connect GM vehicles with the cloud. You will own distributed systems, collaborating across teams to deliver scalable, reliable connected vehicle experiences.

The role emphasizes hands-on implementation from architecture through production support, including on-call rotations and comprehensive monitoring.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience required.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building production-grade services or platforms.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-native development and distributed systems.
• Experience with Microservices, REST/gRPC APIs, and modern CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java microservices using Spring Boot 3.2+ and Java 17+ in a cloud-native environment.
• Implement event-driven integrations using Spring Kafka (producers, consumers, error handling, retries, monitoring).
• Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas, queries, and migrations for data integrity and performance.
• Build and maintain monitoring and alerting with Datadog for owned services.
• Collaborate with product, architecture, and other engineering teams across Carrier and Vehicle Services Platform.
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause investigations, and participate in on-call rotations.
• Participate in code reviews and maintain coding standards for quality, security, and performance.
• Develop technical documentation, runbooks, and support guides for services.
