Job summary

Humana seeks a Senior Software Engineer to design, implement, and operate stateful services that power real-time decisioning and personalization platforms. You will manage authoritative state, lifecycle transitions, and ensure deterministic side effects in high-concurrency, low-latency environments.

You will apply expertise in state machines, idempotency, and distributed systems, while leveraging AI-assisted tooling to drive correctness, velocity, and reliability across the stack.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 6+ years of experience in backend or platform engineering.
• Hands-on expertise with state machines, lifecycle management, and transactional state stores.
• Knowledge of exactly-once processing and distributed system failure modes.
• Proficiency in one or more languages (Java, Kotlin, Go, Python).
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools for productivity and code quality.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate state machines for lifecycle management and transitions.
• Architect transactional state stores and ensure safe high-concurrency reads/writes.
• Implement outbox patterns for atomic state updates and event delivery.
• Design for correctness under concurrency and partial failures with robust idempotency.
• Leverage AI-assisted tools to assist tests, reviews, and debugging.
• Ensure observability with logs, metrics, tracing and auditable state changes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and mentor engineers on distributed systems.
