Job summary

Humana is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, implement, and operate stateful services that power real-time decisioning and personalization platforms. You will work with state machines, idempotent APIs, and transactional state stores in a highly concurrent environment.

You will employ AI-assisted tooling to improve correctness, velocity, and resilience, while ensuring observability, auditability, and robust testing across distributed components.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 6+ years of experience in backend or platform engineering.
• Demonstrated hands-on expertise with state machine modeling and lifecycle management.
• In-depth understanding of exactly-once processing and failure modes in distributed environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain explicit state machines governing lifecycle transitions.
• Ensure state machines are deterministic, testable, and auditable.
• Architect and manage transactional state stores as single source of truth.
• Implement idempotency controls so requests can be retried safely and events deduplicate.
• Develop APIs and workflows resilient to retries, restarts, and replay events.
• Employ outbox pattern to guarantee atomicity of state updates and event publication.
• Design for correctness under concurrent updates and partial failures.
• Collaborate with platform and data teams and mentor engineers.
