Job summary

SumUp is building its own acquiring capability in Europe and seeks a Senior Software Engineer with strong Go expertise to design and evolve core payments infrastructure. You will work on greenfield components powering payment experiences for small businesses worldwide, contributing from Sofia with a focus on reliability and scalability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with Go.
• Experience building and consuming APIs in production environments.
• Strong understanding of architecture, design principles and data modeling.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases; PostgreSQL and Kafka are valuable.
• Practical experience with Docker, AWS and Kubernetes.
• DevOps mindset and ownership of own services.
• Strong problem-solving, collaboration and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and build core acquiring capabilities including authorisation, clearing and settlement.
• Develop APIs, data models and services for the acquiring platform.
• Build reporting, back-office and operational tools for reliable acquiring operations.
• Ensure systems meet card-scheme, security and compliance requirements.
• Create observability, monitoring and incident-response foundations.
• Collaborate with Processing, Reconciliation, Risk, Compliance, Finance and Treasury.
• Contribute to architecture discussions and make sound technical decisions.
• Take ownership of medium-to-large technical initiatives spanning teams.
• Identify and prioritize technical debt and operational risks.
• Mentor teammates and shape testing and on-call practices.
