Job summary

SumUp is building a Global Bank tribe to provide merchants with a digital banking experience. As a Backend Engineer, you’ll help move from regional banks to a unified, distributed, event-driven architecture with a modern cloud-native stack (Go, AWS, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes).

You’ll work in Vilnius and collaborate across SumUp’s offices worldwide to deliver high‑availability services and excellent observability.

Qualifications

• Strong backend experience with Golang and distributed systems.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and modern cloud tech.
• Familiarity with SQL/NoSQL databases and observability tooling.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a global team to design and build a unified global banking platform across regions.
• Transform monolithic services into decoupled, scalable, region-agnostic solutions.
• Design and implement highly available backend services with a focus on reliability.
• Maintain core services on cloud-native stack (AWS, Kubernetes) with Golang, Java, Kotlin, Elixir.
• Improve test coverage and drive end-to-end delivery including observability and monitoring.
• Shape engineering culture through best practices, documentation, and tooling choices.
