Job summary

SumUp is seeking a backend software engineer with a strong Go background to build and scale systems that attribute merchant acquisition, calculate commissions, and track lifecycle events. You will design APIs, implement data models, and collaborate with multiple squads to automate complex workflows in a fintech context.

This role emphasizes end-to-end ownership, strong testing and observability, and the use of modern event-driven patterns.

Qualifications

• Strong backend engineering background in Go or a typed-language generalist able to ramp quickly.
• Experience designing APIs and distributed systems with clear contracts and versioning.
• Fluent in relational databases (PostgreSQL, Snowflake) and appropriate data choices.
• Built Kafka-based event-driven systems and understands CDC/event-sourcing patterns.
• Experience with auditable, high-trust fintech/payments domain preferred.

Responsibilities

• Aggregate data across SumUp to identify acquisition channels and driving agents.
• Define API contracts, schemas, and integration patterns for teams to reuse.
• Build Lifecycle Event Log and internal APIs for monitoring commissions.
• Establish testing, observability, and incident response practices.
• Own end-to-end delivery from design to production with sound trade-offs.
