Job summary

SumUp seeks a Backend Engineer to modernize core banking services and build a globally scalable platform. You will own from design to production, tackling high-load systems while collaborating with Risk, Treasury, Finance, and Infrastructure across regions.

You’ll be proficient in Golang and comfortable with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes, delivering reliable services with strong test coverage and observability.

Qualifications

• Proficient in building reliable, high-volume backend services.
• Experience with designing APIs, data models, and service interactions.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve core banking services transforming regional systems into a unified global platform.
• Tackle distributed systems challenges ensuring resilient services under high transaction volumes.
• Improve observability, add test coverage, refactor code for long-term maintainability, and introduce new architectural patterns without disrupting live banking ops.
• Contribute to architectural decisions—ledger and transaction history systems for a globally scalable banking solution.
• Collaborate with Risk, Treasury, Finance, and Infrastructure to ensure compliant, reliable global operations.
• Take ownership from design to production, monitor performance, and continuously improve software delivery at scale.
