Job summary

SumUp seeks a Backend Engineer to own production money movement backend services and integrations across SEPA/UK transfer flows. You’ll work on complex systems, improving reliability and contributing to design and implementation.

Expect collaboration with Product, QA, and other engineers while scaling backend services to support merchants. Our tech stack includes Golang, AWS, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kubernetes, with observability via Prometheus, Grafana, and Honeycomb.

Qualifications

• Experience building backend services in production environments.
• Proficient in Go (Golang) and open to learning other languages as needed.
• Familiar with cloud-based systems, containerized workloads, and automated delivery pipelines.
• Ability to raise well-scoped PRs, perform code reviews, and uphold code quality and test coverage.
• Understanding of system architecture, data modeling, and API design; eager to deepen this knowledge.
• Strong communication and collaboration with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain production money movement backend services and ensure reliability.
• Own and deliver defined tasks and features within the team’s domain.
• Contribute to design and implementation following architectural patterns.
• Improve service reliability and quality by writing tests and enhancing monitoring.
• Participate in on-call rotations and incident response.
• Apply a backend/system perspective during refinement and risk assessment.
• Collaborate with Product, QA, and other engineers to deliver end-to-end transfer and banking capabilities.
