Job summary

Ladders is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Online Storage) to design, operate, and improve large-scale storage systems powering core backend services. The role emphasizes reliability, zero-downtime migrations, and seamless integration with Kubernetes-based storage layers.

You will collaborate across teams to deliver robust storage infrastructure, enabling high availability for customer-facing products while optimizing performance and scalability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Proficiency in backend technologies such as Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, Terraform, and Kubernetes.
• Hands-on experience with large-scale database deployments in production.
• Expertise in distributed databases such as MySQL, TiDB, Postgres, and similar systems.
• Solid understanding of distributed database architecture and performance tuning.
• Experience with database benchmarking, load testing, and capacity planning.
• Familiarity with connection poolers and proxies such as ProxySQL and RDS Proxy.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute reliability-focused schema and data migrations with zero downtime.
• Own the networking stack connecting services to storage on Kubernetes.

Job description

For our client, we are seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Online Storage) to join the team of a leader in the Finance & Insurance space.

This role will focus on the design, operation, and reliability of large-scale storage systems that power critical backend services. You will work closely with engineering partners to build resilient database infrastructure, support zero-downtime migrations, and improve the performance and availability of core platform components. The position also involves cross-functional collaboration to help the team deliver dependable technical foundations for customer-facing products.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $173,000 – $233,000 annually
