Job summary

PayJunction is seeking a Software Architect to design and build enterprise features and payment integrations. You will lead from a blank page to production while still writing Java yourself, collaborating with Product and Engineering leadership.

The role requires long-term ownership of high-availability systems, mentoring engineers, and delivering secure, PCI-compliant solutions across services and APIs. Flexible work options are available.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering with ownership of production systems.
• 5+ years of architecture experience (Architect/Staff/Principal).
• 5+ years of Java, including web frameworks and JVM.
• 5+ years mentoring engineers through reviews and pairing.

Responsibilities

• Lead open-ended initiatives from a blank page to production with Product and Engineering leadership.
• Design highest-risk systems end-to-end with clear design docs and failure modes.
• Stay hands-on: write production Java each sprint and review PRs promptly.
• Mentor senior engineers through design and code reviews to raise team capability.
• Architect enterprise capabilities like SSO, RBAC, audit trails, multi-merchant hierarchy, with versioned APIs.
• Maintain platform processor-agnostic integrity and optimize processor integrations.
