Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Senior SOC Analyst to support the DOS DT CAEIO program. The role focuses on security monitoring, threat hunting, and incident response for high-availability systems in a federal environment. Candidates must have an active SECRET clearance and SIEM experience, preferably Splunk and Microsoft Sentinel.

Remote work is offered with occasional onsite meetings in the Washington, DC area. Strong knowledge of RMF and NIST standards is important for success in this role.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship and an active SECRET security clearance
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field with 6–8 years of experience depending on degree
• 5+ years of cybersecurity, SOC, or systems security experience in a federal government environment
• 3+ years experience with a SIEM platform, preferably Splunk
• Experience using Splunk dashboards and Microsoft Sentinel for security monitoring and analysis
• 4+ years experience querying and analyzing security data, including SPL
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, network ports, protocols, and traffic flow
• Familiarity with RMF and NIST standards (e.g., NIST SP 800-53)
• Experience identifying logging and monitoring gaps and improving monitoring

Responsibilities

• Monitor and investigate security alerts, perform threat hunting, and notify incident responders and service providers
• Analyze network traffic to identify anomalous activity and potential threats
• Create advanced ad hoc SPL queries
• Coordinate with internal/external teams to investigate threats and conduct forensic analysis
• Review log files from host, network, firewall, and IDS sources
• Utilize SIEM and EDR tools to monitor the environment
• Develop configuration standards, policies, and procedures for secure operations
• Advise management on technology risks and mitigation strategies
• Engage with management, providing technical expertise and leadership
• Prepare reports detailing investigations and security activities
• Identify and classify attack tactics and techniques
• Recommend enhancements to improve system performance, security, and reliability
• Build and refine SOC processes and SOPs
• Train and mentor junior SOC members
• Plan and execute SOC-related projects and initiatives
• Communicate clearly with managers and colleagues
• Demonstrate flexibility and take on additional responsibilities
