Job summary

Turner Construction Company is seeking an experienced estimator to prepare Self-Perform Operations (SPO) concrete estimates for Cleveland-area projects. You’ll perform quantity take-offs, develop labor rates, and assemble bids across contract types, collaborating with Preconstruction to resolve design issues and risks.

The role requires at least 3 years in concrete estimating, a related engineering/CM degree, and proficiency with InEight and MS Office.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of related experience performing detailed estimates for concrete scopes of work.
• Bachelor's Degree from accredited degree program in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Building Construction, or related field of study a plus, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Experience with performing detailed estimates for concrete structures
• Knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions, Trade practices
• Ability to read, understand, and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedule
• Knowledge of estimating documents and ability to provide accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis of documents
• Conceptual ability to work with minimum information and quickly develop understanding of requirements
• Proficient skills in project management, able to prioritize competing demands and meet deadlines
• Familiar with construction operating procedures and methods of other departments (e.g., Procurement, Operations)
• Professional verbal and written communication skills, able to present information to non-technical audiences
• Proficient computer skills and Microsoft Office suite of applications, and familiar with estimating software (e.g., InEight)
• Limited travel

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed SPO concrete estimates including quantity take-offs, analysis, estimate input, and studies for items in assigned scope.
• Generate labor productivity rates in coordination with historical data & project constraints; develop vendor relationships for pricing.
• Prepare and assemble bids for Lump Sum, GMP, and Cost Plus contracts.
• Identify and communicate design issues and project risks; propose solutions with Preconstruction team.
• Analyze SPO concrete project schedules for sequencing risk and prepare labor-loaded schedules.
• Collaborate with SPO Manager to include markups, labor rates, and other information in estimates.
• Lead document management for SPO concrete projects and distribute drawings/specifications to stakeholders.
• Attend constructability review meetings and document issues with Trades; support team and designers.
• Develop SPO concrete value analysis studies for cost-efficient alternatives.
• Understand trade package scope including contracts, site logistics, schedule, coordination, means, and methods.
• Prepare scope requisitions for assigned Trades and coordinate to eliminate gaps/overlaps.
• Prepare comparison analyses to previous estimates for the assigned scope.
• For subcontracted SPO concrete, evaluate Trade proposals and participate in Post Bid Review.
• Manage Post Bid action items and finalize sub-tier scopes; advise Procurement for bid awards.
• Prepare and manage project kick-off meetings and hand-offs to project operations teams.
• May supervise Estimating team; participate in recruiting and performance appraisals.
• Other duties as assigned.
