Job summary

Axios is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to lead security across our cloud and AI-enabled platform. You will define the security roadmap, implement proactive controls, and embed AI-driven defense throughout our pipelines and environments.

The role focuses on securing AWS/Kubernetes, automating scans, and driving threat modeling with engineering teams. A remote-optional, full-time position in the United States is available.

Qualifications

• Proven expertise in cloud and application security, threat modeling, vulnerability scanning, IAM, and compliance.
• Strong knowledge of AWS infrastructure and security controls (IAM, KMS, EKS, RDS, S3).
• Experience hardening Kubernetes clusters, runtime security, container scanning, and network policy enforcement.
• Skilled in integrating SAST/DAST and security automation into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions).
• Proficient in Python, Go, or Bash for security tooling and automated remediation.

Responsibilities

• Lead architectural design and implement security controls across cloud infrastructure and AI integrations.
• Drive vulnerability management, threat modeling, incident response, and proactive security assessments.
• Shape and execute the long-term security roadmap with engineering and leadership.
• Embed automated security testing and AI-driven checks into CI/CD and IaC workflows.
• Oversee IAM, secrets management, encryption, and zero-trust standards across platforms.
• Evaluate and deploy internal AI security tools and third-party defensive solutions.
• Promote security culture through threat modeling workshops and secure coding coaching.
• Partner with product, infrastructure, data, and QE teams to embed security in the SDLC.
