Job summary

WSP is seeking a SCADA Engineer – Technical Director for our Boise, ID office to lead electrical utility SCADA projects, including transmission and distribution substations, generation facilities, and control centers. The role requires strong technical leadership and client relationship skills.

You will mentor engineers, manage project priorities, pursue new business opportunities, and ensure design and commissioning quality in line with IEEE/IEC/NERC standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• 12+ years of relevant post-education experience in electrical engineering for SCADA projects.
• Advanced proficiency with electrical engineering principles, practices, design/build, and QA/QC.
• Works independently and provides guidance to mid-level to senior team, with QA/QC adherence.
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills, with ability to interact at all levels.
• Travel flexibility and ability to adapt to changing project needs.
• Occasional travel may be required.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and policy compliance.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership in design, engineering, and commissioning of utility SCADA projects.
• Coordinate, review, and approve electrical infrastructure design plans for mid-level and complex projects.
• Prepare data transfer Points lists and develop HMI screens; travel to project sites to test data transfer schemes.
• Design networks for RTUs, IEDs, HMIs, and other SCADA equipment; ensure data security and reliability.
• Develop and implement control logic for microgrids, Volt/Var, load shedding, and related schemes; travel to sites to test.
• Adhere to IEEE, IEC, ANSI, CIGRE, and NERC standards; mentor team members and support business development.
• Explain complex technical issues to diverse audiences and manage project priorities.
