Job summary

Anduril Industries in Illinois is seeking a Staff Controls Engineer to own the SCADA layer and PLC programming for high-rate Solid Rocket Motor production equipment at our McHenry plant. You will design, commission, and maintain control systems ensuring safety, reliability, and manufacturability.

The role requires deep Siemens PLC expertise, Ignition Perspective SCADA development, and strong risk/safety design knowledge, with mentoring responsibilities and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
• 8+ years of controls and automation experience in production
• Expert in Siemens PLC programming (Ladder and Structured Text)
• Proficient in servo drive and VFD configuration; PID tuning; STO/SS
• Strong knowledge of ProfiNET, ProfiSAFE, Ethernet IP
• Electrical component selection; wire sizing; circuit protection; heat management
• Ignition (Perspective) SCADA development experience
• Risk Assessments & Controls Safety Design experience
• Pneumatic concepts & design knowledge
• NFPA70e electrical safety practices
• U.S. Person due to export controlled information access

Responsibilities

• Design, commission, and upgrade control systems for Solid Rocket Motor production equipment
• Architect, write, and debug Siemens PLC code with organized, maintainable structure
• Generate and enforce internal standards for control systems architectures, regulatory compliance, and safety buyoffs
• Integrate internal and external FactoryOS software into automation equipment and production lines
• Build and maintain SCADA applications in Ignition, including tag architecture, Perspective screens, alarming, and historian configuration
• Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for automation failures
• Install, configure, and tune servo drives / VFDs
• Partner with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot equipment issues, reduce downtime, and drive continuous improvement
• Mentor junior controls engineers and provide technical direction on integrator-delivered work
