Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks an Automation Engineer to design and deploy SCADA systems for electric grid projects in the U.S. This role focuses on planning, engineering, and integrating RTUs, IEDs, and master station connections with robust networking and CIP alignment.

You will configure RTUs and PACs, develop HMI applications, and collaborate with relay engineers. A hybrid office arrangement is offered with opportunities to travel up to 30%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunications, or Computer Systems Engineering.
• 8 years of experience in design, configuration, implementation, and troubleshooting of substation SCADA and communication systems.
• Experience with SEL, Novatech, & GE RTUs and software.
• Basic understanding of LAN/WAN devices and topology.
• Knowledge of DNP, Modbus, SEL, IEC-61850 (MMS/Goose) protocols - serial & IP based.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Ability & willingness to travel up to 30%.

Responsibilities

• Plan, engineer, and design SCADA and communications systems for client projects.
• Develop communication block diagrams, panel layouts, SCADA schematics, fiber drawings, and network diagrams.
• Provide reviews/design input of P&C drawings for SCADA system requirements.
• Develop points lists for data transferred between RTUs, IEDs, and master station connections.
• Develop configurations for RTUs and PACs (SEL RTAC, Novatech OrionLX, SMP Gateway, GE-D20).
• Program HMI applications (SEL Diagram Builder, Inkscape, Wonderware).
• Coordinate with relay settings engineers on port settings for protection relays, meters, and other IEDs.
• Develop network device configurations for switches, routers, and firewalls (Cisco, Siemens Ruggedcom, SEL).
• Troubleshoot SCADA network and communication systems (DNP, Modbus, SEL Protocol, IEC 61850, TCP/IP, UDP) remotely and onsite.
• Develop SCADA system and Network documentation for projects.
• Develop automation tools to improve project efficiency (Python).
• Stage, configure & test integrated systems designs for interoperability & performance with CIP.
• Mentor and guide less experienced engineers; travel up to 30% as needed.
