Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an Automation Engineer to design and implement SCADA and communications for electric grid projects. The role involves planning, configuring RTUs/PACs, developing HMIs, and coordinating with relay engineers to ensure compliant, secure systems.

You will work on diverse client projects, travel up to 30%, and participate in a collaborative environment with mentoring and knowledge sharing through Communities of Practice.

Qualifications

• Five years designing and troubleshooting substation SCADA and comms systems.
• Experience with SEL, Novatech, and GE RTUs.
• Knowledge of LAN/WAN topology.
• Familiar with DNP, Modbus, IEC 61850 protocols.
• Proficient in MS Office.
• Willing to travel up to 30%.

Responsibilities

• Engage in fast-paced client projects to plan, engineer, & design SCADA and communications systems.
• Develop communication block diagrams, panel layouts, SCADA schematics, fiber detail drawings, & network drawings.
• Provide reviews/design input of P&C drawings for SCADA system requirements.
• Develop points lists for data transferred between RTUs, IEDs, and master station connections.
• Develop configurations for RTUs and PACs (SEL/Novatech/GE, etc.).
• Program HMI applications (SEL Diagram Builder, Inkscape, Wonderware).
• Coordinate with relay settings engineers for protection relays, meters, & IEDs.
• Develop network device configurations for switches/routers/firewalls (Cisco, Siemens, SEL).
• Troubleshoot SCADA system network & communication systems remotely/onsite.
• Develop SCADA system and Network documentation for projects.
• Develop automation tools to improve project efficiency (Python).
• Stage and test integrated systems for interoperability & performance.
• Ensure adherence to CIP/NERC standards.
• Guide and mentor junior engineers.
