Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an Automation Engineer to design and implement SCADA and communications systems for Electric Grid Infrastructure projects in the United States. You’ll engineer, configure, and test RTUs, PACs, and HMI applications while coordinating with relay engineers and cybersecurity teams.

The role demands travel up to 30% and a strong background in substation SCADA, network protocols, and CIP/NERC standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunications, or Computer Systems Engineering.
• 8 years of experience in design, configuration, implementation, and troubleshooting of substation SCADA and communication systems.
• Experience with SEL, Novatech, and GE RTUs and software.
• Willingness to travel up to 30%.

Responsibilities

• Engage in fast-paced client projects to plan, engineer, and design SCADA and communications systems.
• Develop and review P&C drawings and SCADA schematics.
• Develop points lists for data transferred between RTUs, IEDs, and master station connections.
• Develop configurations for RTUs and PACs (SEL devices, GE, etc.).
• Program HMI applications (SEL Diagram Builder, Inkscape, Wonderware).
• Coordinate with relay settings engineers for protection relays and meters.
• Develop network device configurations for switches, routers, and firewalls.
• Troubleshoot SCADA networks remotely and onsite as needed.
• Document SCADA systems and networks for projects.
• Develop automation tools to improve project efficiency (Python, etc.).
• Stage, configure and test integrated systems per CIP and NERC standards.
