Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an Automation Engineer to design SCADA and communications systems for Electric Grid projects. You’ll develop diagrams, configurations for RTUs/PACs, and HMI programs, collaborating with relay engineers to ensure robust protection and data integrity.

This hybrid role may require up to 30% travel and offers relocation support. A strong background in substation SCADA, DNP/Modbus, and IEC-61850 is essential for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunications, or Computer Systems Engineering is required.
• 8 years of experience in design, configuration, implementation, and troubleshooting of substation SCADA and communication systems.
• Experience with SEL, Novatech, & GE RTUs and software.
• Knowledge of LAN/WAN devices and topology; DNP, Modbus, SEL, IEC-61850 protocols.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications; ability and willingness to travel up to 30%.

Responsibilities

• Engage in fast-paced client projects to plan, engineer, & design SCADA and communications systems.
• Develop communication block diagrams, panel layouts, SCADA schematics, fiber, and network drawings.
• Provide reviews/design input of P&C drawings for SCADA system requirements.
• Develop data transfer points lists for RTUs, IEDs, and master station connections.
• Develop configurations for RTUs and PACs; program HMI applications.
• Coordinate with relay settings engineers on port settings for protections and metering.
