Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an Automation Engineer for its Electric Grid Infrastructure Services unit. The role focuses on designing and implementing SCADA and communications systems for substations, along with RTU and PAC configurations.

The position offers hybrid work, with three days in-office and relocation assistance as needed, and expects up to 30% travel. Ideal candidates have 5+ years in substation SCADA design, familiarity with SEL/Novatech/GE RTUs, and knowledge of DNP/Modbus/IEC-61850

Qualifications

• 5+ years designing substation SCADA and comms systems.
• Experience with SEL, Novatech, and GE RTUs and software.
• Knowledge of LAN/WAN devices and topology.
• Familiar with DNP, Modbus, SEL, IEC-61850 (MMS/Goose) protocols (serial & IP).
• Proficient with MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Engage in fast-paced client projects to plan, engineer, and design SCADA and communications systems.
• Develop block diagrams, panel layouts, SCADA schematics, and fiber/network drawings.
• Provide reviews/design input for SCADA system requirements and data transfer points.
• Coordinate with relay settings engineers for port settings and protections.
• Develop network device configurations for switches/routers/firewalls (Cisco, Siemens, SEL).
• Troubleshoot SCADA network/communications (DNP, Modbus, IEC 61850) remotely and on-site.
• Create SCADA and Network documentation; develop automation tools (Python).
• Stage, configure and test integrated designs for interoperability and performance.
